A glass cup is put onto a patient’s body and suction is caused

by burning off the oxygen inside the cup before it is quickly placed

on the body. The body is massaged with oil before the cups are

placed on a painful area. The oil helps to form a vacuum.

Depending on the condition being treated, the cups will be left in

place from 5 to 10 minutes. Several cups may be placed on a

patient’s body at the same time. Some practitioners will also apply

small amounts of medicated oils or herbal, essential oils to the

skin just before the cupping procedure, which lets them move the

cups up and down particular acu-points or meridians.

In China, cupping is used primarily to treat respiratory

conditions such as bronchitis, asthma, and congestion;

arthritis; gastrointestinal disorders; and certain types of pain.

Some practitioners also use cupping to treat depression and

reduce swelling.

Fleshy sites on the body, such as the back and stomach (and,

to a lesser extent, the arms and legs), are the preferred sites

for treatment.

The special technique called “running cups” used on the back helps

to ease back pain, especially lower back pain and general

stiffness in the back. The results are very quick and it is a most

enjoyable experience.

Getting rid of unwanted cellulite

Using running cups on the side of the legs and hips helps to break

down cellulite. For lasting results it is better to have a series of

12 treatments over 3 or 4 weeks.

Chinese medicine and Tui-Na massage techniques

The backbone of Traditional Chinese medicine has 8 pillars of

wisdom. One of these is acupuncture and the knowledge of the

12 main meridian pathways. If any one of these meridians has a

blockage, the person will experience pain and discomfort at the

point of the blockage.

By vibrating distal points on the same meridian that has the

blockage, the practitioner can bring ease and well-being to the

patient. In TCM, muscles are capable of holding emotions and

traumatic memories which bring suffering to the patient.

With the use of Tui-Na massage and bio-mechanical stimulation

or vibration therapy, at between 50-150Hz, the muscles and pain

are dissipated bringing about emotional release and a feeling of

peace and well-being. Tui-Na Massages helps with your muscles

and emotional stress,

What is Pulsed Electro-magnetic Field Therapy?

PEMF is extremely low frequency pulsing energy ranging from

1 Hz to 50 Hz.

The use of PEMF is completely safe especially when the

pulsing frequencies are kept under 100 Hz and used for

about 20 minutes per treatment. Clients can have two treatments

a day, of 20 minutes per treatment, approximately 6 hours apart.

The earth’s magnetic frequency, otherwise known as Schumann

waves are at 7.8 Hz

The use of PEMF for fibromyalgia and CFS (chronic fatigue

syndrome) for pain relief has been documented in many

instances around the world. Studies have shown that PEMF

increases blood supply, changes the composition of

membranes in stiff joints, promotes the growth of cartilage,

and improves calcium transfer to the bones.

Electro-Magnetic Fields (EMF) are not to be confused with

50/60 Hz electromagnetic radiation around high voltage power

lines and transformers, which induce a continuous

electromagnetic field. The behaviour of these electromagnetic

fields is completely different from PEMF and the warnings

should be taken seriously because they are correct.

Cell phones work with frequencies higher than 800 MHz

(800.000.000 Hz) and it is an open question if they might cause

These discussions will definitely still take many years before

firm conclusions can be drawn. So far there is no firm proof

that indeed they stimulate cancer growth and at this stage,

the recommendations are not to allow children to use cell

phones for extended periods because the device is held close to the

Research is still on-going regarding radiation from cell phone usage.

Is cupping safe?

Does it hurt?

While cupping is considered

relatively safe (especially air

cupping, which does not

include the risk of fire and

heat), it can cause some

swelling and bruising on

the skin.

As the skin under a cup is

drawn up, the blood vessels

at the surface of the skin

This may result in small,

circular bruises on the

areas where the cups

were applied.

These bruises are usually

painless, and disappear

within a few days of
